This weekend, I supposed to travel back to the United States to finalize the planning for a marketing and sales event in central Florida; instead, I was asked to follow up on another marketing project I proposed a few weeks before for the Cuban Market, one of the most important destinations for the company. Without much hesitation, I accepted! I went back to my hotel, got my bag ready and I was on my way to the country of the great Fidel Castro, and Che Guevara. Cuba is heavily investing in new marketing strategies to attract more tourists from other European countries and Canada; the country has been hit by an executive order Signed by Donald Trump, preventing Americans from traveling to Cuba for leisure tourism purpose. However; Even with the reduction of American tourists due to the impact of President Trump decision, there are still a lot of people from Canada, South America and Europe coming in every week to enjoy this fantastic part of the Caribbean.
As I’m traveling to more Caribbean countries, I quickly realize, architecture is probably one of the essential tools that can help you understand which group of European used to live in this part of the Caribbean as most Caribbean countries have been colonized or still under the influence of a European country. As a lover of great design and architecture, I fell in love with Havana at first sign. This is my first trip to this part of Cuba; I believe this place should be visited by more Caribbean people, especially Haitians. It becomes more accessible with Sunrise Airways, a Haitian Airline with the mission of connecting the Caribbean, and the company already connects more than nine destinations in 6 countries in the Caribbean and the United States including three essential cities from Cuba: Santiago, Havana, and Camaguey.
The most famous words you might hear in the street are “Where are you from” these words will quickly be followed by would like you like a car tour, a Cuban cigar or Cuban Art before you even have a chance to explain where you come from. It particularly amazes me the way the Cubans have been able to turn American products (Old American Cars) into their tourism products, and the world knows them for it. The old American Cars, are the most ridden taxi in Cuba, everyone wants to ride one of them. I did not have a chance to ride one, but I paid a guy a few Cuban pesos to get my old car souvenir picture.
If you love history, Architecture, and art From music to amazing street art by some very talented artists, Havana is the place you want to visit. It does not mean that you can not have a good time in the process, there are plenty of places you can go after a great city or Museum tour, I went to see a trendy Cuban Artist, Haila at La Casa de la Musica Plaza. According to the majority of attendees, she is being considered La Diosa of Salsa in Cuba. At least a living Diosa, during her performance she honored Cecilia Cruz, the late Cuban Artist who has been recognized as la Diosa de las diosas del Salsa. You might as well want to keep an open mind; you will probably not be able to share your excitement with your friend abroad right away because of the limited internet. Today is my third day without internet, although I miss talking to my loved ones, and probably miss thousands calls from WhatsApp from the people I’m working with, I’m enjoying it. It helps me stay focus, and I feel a real connection with the incredible culture, the lifestyle and most important the fantastic Cuban people.
