Weekends usually start in Haiti on Thursday, you can enjoy Yanvalou if you are in Port Au Prince, in Cap-Haitien people go to places like Lakay Restaurant or Boukanye. One thing these sites have in common is this afro sound that intrigues you to “Souke Tèt” shake your head or move your whole body. The music is a mix of African and creole instruments with African sample or just a Haitian Creole voice celebrating life, animating the public.
This music is connecting Haiti to its African roots once again, and tourists from all over the world love it. Last month, I went to Yanvalou I see a foreign tourist singing while a local DJ is executing the song and she was like; “ohhhh I love this song,” with a glass of Barbancourt in hands, she was apparently having the time of her life.
One of the leading artists on the Afro Music scene in Haiti is Roody Roodboy, but today we will introduce you to this new song “Pare” from Jude Severe aka Freakeys young Haitian Artist and Musician. This song will give you a sense of what the Afro Music scene is like in Haiti.
