This year at NAAHP conference the organizing team dedicates a panel to Tourism inviting some young actors in the industry. In 2010, the former president of Haiti, Mr.Michel Martelly and several members of his government had a particular attention on the tourism sector, given the immediate impact it could have on Haiti Economy.
Tourism Is one of the Caribbean’s Major Economic Sectors. The Caribbean received over 25 million tourists every year, and their contribution represents $49 billion towards the area’s gross domestic product in 2013, which represented 14% of the region’s total GDP. Haiti still barely receive 1 million tourists compared to 6 million tourists that visit the Dominican Republic every year.
What direction should we take to grow the tourism industry? What role should the government play? Who are the right players? What kind of tourism products do we have in Haiti? What can be the role of the diaspora in Haiti Tourism Development? During this panel, Davidson Toussaint, from Haiti Tourism Inc, Christian Fonbrun from Decameron, Stepanie Barnes From the Marriott Haiti, Samuel Dameus from the Faces of Haiti and Sandy Laborde from Sunrise will try to address these questions. A unique opportunity to learn about what is next for the tourism sector in Haiti.
