We can not attract tourists, businesses and more investments if we do not rebrand Haiti, while we are working on the ground to facilitate investments in infrastructures and a better business environment.
Promoting Haiti and its amazing culture is definitely my passion; being able to see a lot of people discovering the beauty of this country, which was long time forgotten is the greatest honour our team ever receives because we contribute a lot of energies, money and times to make to have the job done. Nevertheless, I think we could have done a better Job with the support of our private sector and the government.
In different interviews, people often ask us: “Are you guys working with the government, is the government supporting your effort? How do you guys fund this project? Some even believe Haiti Tourism Inc represented the Minister of Tourism office; as a matter of fact in many occasions we have received emails for the Minister of Tourism from different institutions, organizations even from government officials.
We started Haiti Tourism Inc. in 2006. Back then, not too many people considered Haiti as a tourist destination. With a developing passion of showing the positive side of Haiti, I personally invited eleven American students from a International program at the University i was attended (PUCMM) to visit my hometown, they all stayed at my house. They were there to visit to learn and to make their own conclusion about Haiti. To be honest, I only knew about Citadelle, Labadee, Picolet during this time, but I was convinced that I could change their mindset about Haiti with the little I knew about about this beautiful country.
To date we have spent thousands of dollars and organise several International events in 10 different countries to keep educating people and connecting them with the potentials we have Here, we have met several travel agencies from all over the world and help them include Haiti as one of their destinations. We are able to bring Haiti to different part of the world and give the opportunity to more than 15 million people online to discover Haiti in a different light. The first time Haiti make it on the 100 world most beautiful beach CNN list, the effort of our team played a big part of it, yet without the support or any official recognition from our government.
Money is an important aspect of the process of promoting a country or a tourism product, but it is not all, I personally believe, we can achieve much more if we are willing to put our resources and influences together.
Haiti tourism Inc is a platform where Haitians can finally speak for themselves, Where we can tell our story they way we want it to be told, Building strategic partnership is essential to change the image of Haiti worldwide. Government agencies, the private sector, even NGOs can and should be part of the process.
We can not attract tourists, businesses or more investment if we do not rebrand Haiti, while we are working on the ground to facilitate investment in infrastructure and a better business environment. Tourism is not a business, it is a sector that can create wealth through business development, and it needs special attention, expertise and investment facilitation from the government.
We could have done more for the tourism sector in Haiti, and the possibility to do more is still here. But we need start building strategic partnership with Haitian own businesses, Tourism organisations and experts in the field. let’s put our effort, resources and influences together to do a better Job for this country. #Haiti
